"Beanie Reanie" Lessons

Now that Sophie is 3 she is old enough for ballet lessons. She calls them "beanie reanie" lessons. I was scared that she wouldn't like them, but she LOVES it! I think it is the highlight of her week :). Her teacher Ms Suzanne said today that she is doing great and improving with each class. I think this means that she is starting to listen and do what she is suppossed to do.

We celebrated Sophie's 3rd birthday party with a make your own pizza party at the Mellow Mushroom. It was so much fun! The kids all had the best time making their pizzas. They showed us how to stretch our dough and throw it into the air. Thankfully, none ended up on the floor. Then the kids were able to put as much sauce, pepperoni and cheese on their pizza as they wanted. Sophie's was dripping with tons of toppings! We gave all the kids at the party their own little green apron as a party favor to wear. They all looked very cute in them. The staff even said that this was the cleanest party they had done. Who would have ever thought that 15 three year old kids would be the cleanest party.

Summer Fun

All I Wanna Do Is Swing

We have been enjoying our new swingset. It is so nice to be able to go out in the backyard to let Sophie play. All she wants to do is swing--high. She likes the blue belt swings, but she can't swing high in it, so most of our time is spent pushing her high in the yellow bucket swing. We've already killed a snake in our backyard. Sophie spotted it the other afternoon when she and Jason were going outside to play. Hopefully, we will not see anymore snakes for the rest of the summer.

Yay!!!! We have finally gotten Sophie a swingset. We have been looking forever and finally decided on the Rainbow Funhouse. It is really nice and fits well in our backyard. She is sooo excited about it. She keeps saying she wants to go play swingset. The set up is probably about 90% complete. It still needs the rock wall and a few other decorative things and then it will be finished. We are going to have so much fun playing on it this summer!

Bye Bye Piepie

We are done with the piepie (pacifier)!!!!! We mailed it to Cinderella and she sent a prize in exchange for the piepies. Sophie did pretty well and really only cried for it a few times when she was overtired. Now she doesn't ask for it at all. Our sweet baby girl is growing up.

Disney World

Yay! We went to Disney World. We went to visit Nanny and Papap and while we were there we thought it would be a good time to take Sophie to see Mickey. We had the best time and Sophie absolutely loved it. We spent the entire day at The Magic Kingdom. Actually, we only saw half of The Magic Kingdom, but that is ok because we saw it at Sophie's pace and she enjoyed every minute. I can hardly wait to go back. Anyway, here are some long overdue pictures from our day. I apologize for the pictures being in random order.

Daddy pushing a napping Sophie in her stroller. She did so great that day. She walked almost the entire time we were there. She wore her monkey harness and it was great. She didn't whine about wanting out of the stroller and we were not constantly worried about her getting separated or having to hold our hand.

This totally shocked us. We really thought she would be a little scared of them, but she wasn't.

The first glimpse of Cinderella's castle never gets old. All Sophie could say was "ohhh wow!" and that pretty much sums it up.

Our first picture with any of the characters was with Alice and the White Rabbit. We were afraid that she would be scared of the chacters, but she wasn't. She really liked Alice and gave her a hug, but she just looked at the White Rabbit when he tried to give her a hug.

Well, that is all for now. We also went to the Florida Stawberry Festival in Plant City. We had a lot of fun there too. It was Sophie's first time to be able to enjoy the fair rides. She LOVED the rides and could not get enough of them. I will post pictures from there later.

Mardi Gras

Today was a beautiful day so we took Sophie to the K-1 center parade in Fairhope. The kindergarten and 1st grade kids march in the parade and throw beads, candy, stuffed animals, moon pies, etc. Sophie loved it. She thought that it was so much fun to catch all the goodies. She would catch a few things and then throw them down and go pick up a bunch of other things. I think that by the time the parade was over she was wearing 5lbs worth of beads. Maybe we will go to a real parade soon, but it has been way too cold to get Sophie out for the evening parades.

Sophie and I made cupcakes this afternoon. She had the best time helping me make the cupcakes and then helped decorate them. I saw a picture of these cute little bear cupcakes and I thought she would love them. They turned out pretty cute.

Sleeping Beauty

Sophie has always liked sleeping on the floor. When she was a baby I would keep a quilt on the floor and when she would get tired she would crawl to her blanket and take a nap. If she woke during the night she would want to lay on the floor and go back to sleep. I thought that those days were behind us, but apparently not. One night last week she woke up and came into our room and laid down on the floor and went back to sleep. I usually hear her when she is awake, but she is very quiet when she does this and I don't know she is there until I wake up. Guess she doesn't want me to make her go and get back in her bed. So, I decided that I would lay some blankets down for her to lay on if she decided to do it again. This is how I found her this morning when I woke up. I'm not really sure I like her sleeping on the floor in our room, but at least she is not waking me up to get into our bed.

We celebrated the new year with nanny & papap in Florida. We had a really nice time visiting with them, going shopping in Orlando, going to pick up Grandma Scott and going to the zoo. Sophie was so excited about going to the zoo, she kept calling it the zooup. We spent the day there and saw less than half of the animals, but we enjoyed everything we saw. Sophie feed the birds and we tried to get her to feed the goats, but she wanted no part of feeding them or the giraffes. Maybe next year!

It was back to school for Sophie today. Christmas break was VERY long due to Sophie being sick most of the month of December. Mrs. Donna & Mrs. Kathy were happy to see that we decided to grace them with our presence. We even came bearing gifts of cake. We made strawberry cupcakes last night for their snack today. Sophie was excited about going to school, but she didn't want me to take her picture. When she doesn't want her picture taken she turns her back to you and then when I finally got a picture of her face she is giving me a dirty look. Of course, no picture is complete unless she has at least 2 bags in it.

Jason, Sophie and I celebrated christmas with Grammy & Grampy the weekend before christmas. Sophie had the best time playing with Abbey & Macey. She loved the presents under the tree and even decided that she couldn't wait for everyone else to open theirs.

Shelley Parker tagged me to post the fourth picture from my fourth picture file. It took me a few days to decide if I wanted to use the picture from my computer or the one from Jason's computer. Well....my computer won (it is the more recent picture of the two). Anyway, this is a picture of Sophie and our friend William playing at Chick-fil-a. They always have the best time playing together. Will is such a cutie and Jason says that he is Sophie's future husband. That would be great, but it is waaay tooooo early to think about that. We are so sad and will miss Will, Kirsty, Hamish, and new baby Madeline when they return to New Zealand (which rumor has it will be soon). We will definitely be planning a trip to New Zealand to visit them. Worn Out.....

Sophie does not seem to be in too much of a hurry to get better. She is still running a low fever and has had a terrible cough since Tuesday. I took her to the doctor yesterday afternoon, but the doctor said it is just a viral infection that must run its course. We didn't sleep very well last night because Sophie coughed and tossed and turned all night. To make matters worse she decided to get up at 6:30 this morning for a glass of bunk (milk). After watching Sesame Street she took a little nap while sitting in her chair. We spent the rest of the morning sitting in her Dora House reading books. She thinks that is where we need to play now even though it is very crowded with her, me, 6 dolls, 10 books, a blanket, pillow and whatever else she picks up on the way in.

Sophie has been sick this week so I got her a prize. Princess slippers! I really got them for her because she doesn't want to wear socks and since she is sick she needs to have something covering her feet. Well, the slippers turned out to be a great idea because she thinks she is something wearing them around. Please notice that we still have a purse in all of our pictures.

Christmas Program

Sophie's preschool had their christmas program on Monday. The pictures are not that great because we had to sit in the back so that Sophie would not see us. She did not want any part of getting on stage so one of her teachers, Mrs Kathy, had to hold her the entire time. Sophie's class did a poem called "The Twos are Bringing Tidings of Joy." It was a really cute poem that incorporated all the children's personalities. After Mrs Kathy read the poem they played a song and the kids were supposed to dance, but only one little boy danced and he stole the show. She at least let me take a picture of the cute t-shirt they made when we got home. As for the christmas program, oh well, maybe next year.

Choo Choo

We went to the train museum in Foley to see the model train exhibit. Sophie's friend Maggie, from our playgroup, and her mom Julie went with us. Before we left for the day Sophie let me take a picture of her in front of the christmas tree. Lately, she goes everywhere with that little purple purse, so of course it had to be in the picture. Sophie is in love with trains right now and she thought that this was the best trip ever. She gets soooo excited when she sees a choo choo (she usually calls large trucks choo choos). Which is pretty funny considering that there are no trains where we live. Anyway, the model trains were very interesting. They have put a lot of time into making such an intricate exhibit. They were even having a funeral in the exhibit, which I thought was a little morbid, but the men thought it was humorous because they had one of the women attending the funeral wearing a red dress. One of the men asked us "Now who would wear a red dress to a funeral." Another one of the men running the trains asked if we wanted to see Mr. T (for those of you who are as uninformed in train lingo as we were Mr. T is Thomas the train.....not the 80's tv star with a mohawk and gold chains). I was glad to realize he was talking about Thomas the train, because I was thinking why would two year old girls want to see Mr. T. Sophie's favorite part of the exhibit was when the trains would go through the tunnels.

My favorite part was when the men would let the girls blow the train whistles.

Here Comes Santa

Sophie, Abbey and I saw Santa when we were at the mall the other day. I thought that maybe Sophie would sit in Santa's lap if Abbey was with her, but nooooo she was having no part of it. I was finally able to get her to sit in my lap while I sat in Santa's lap and as you can see from the look on her face she was still not happy about it.

Fire Station Playdate

We visited the Daphne Fire Station on Thursday for a playdate. The kids loved being able to climb all over the firetrucks. Sophie was scared of the firetruck at first, but she decided that it wasn't that scary after seeing the other kids climb on it. She loved getting to pretend she was the driver. I think she could have spent the rest of the day playing inside the truck. Fireman Tom gave all the kids a fireman hat, but I couldn't get Sophie to put hers on. Unfortunately, the firemen had to go out on a call while we were there and the kids didn't get to see one of them dressed up in their fireman suit. The kids all had the greatest time and it was fun to see everyone enjoy themselves so much.

Halloween

Sophie was a little lamb this year for halloween. I was afraid that she wouldn't want to dress up, but I didn't have any problems getting her to wear the costume. Our friends Kirsty, Hamish and Will came over to trick or treat with us. Will was a very cute little scarecrow. Sophie and Will had the greatest time. We bought a wagon for them to ride around in and I think that they mostly just liked climbing in and out of the wagon. Sophie loved running up to everyone's door and getting candy. She was very polite and would always say thank you (we've been working on manners -saying please and thank you) when she got a piece of candy. After we let the kids trick or treat we came home to some of the best chili Jason has ever made! It was the perfect thing to warm you up on a cool night.

The Pumpkin Patch

We took Sophie to Wales West Railway to the pumpkin patch to ride the train. At first she was a little scared of the train, but luckily we sat there a while waiting for everyone to get on and by the time we left she was over being scared. We rode the train to the pumpkin patch and when we got there we had to go through a little haunted house to get to the pumpkins. Sophie had a good time picking up the little pumpkins and carrying them around. Once we picked out our pumpkins we got to go inside and decorate them. That was Sophie's favorite part. On the way back she wasn't scared of the train and really enjoyed the ride. The conductor let all the kids blow the whistle once we returned to the station, but Sophie was scared of the whistle so we skipped that part and went to get our juice and cookies.

Jason repainted the shutters on the front of our house. They look great now. We have had the paint all summer, but every time Jason was off it was raining or we had something else going on. Sophie really enjoyed relaxing and watching Jason paint. We took her papasan chair outside for her to sit in. It totally changed the look of our house.

We have been working on sitting on the potty. Sophie said her baby had to go "shoo shoo", so we had let her sit on the potty. We got the same results we would have if it had been Sophie sitting there....nothing.

This is a picture of some of the kids in Sophie's playgroup. We went to the pier in Fairhope to play on the beach, feed the ducks and then have a picnic. The kids had the greatest time. They really enjoyed feeding the ducks, but the seagulls took over very quickly once they realized we had food.

Sophie is OBSESSED with Dora. This is a cute picture of Miss Hollywood watching Dora with her Dora doll, Dora purse and covered up with her Dora blanket. She starts asking for Dora as soon as she gets out of bed in the mornings. Sophie has been trying me lately by throwing little tantrums. She has been sitting in the corner because of it. She does pretty well and will sit there until she stops crying. At school they call it sitting in the thinking chair. Now if she starts whining and crying to get her way I ask her if she needs to sit the the corner and she will look at me with very sad eyes and say "nooooo." That will usually make her stop without having to actually go to the corner. Looking at her sitting there makes me feel sorry for her, but I stay strong. She has to learn that you don't always get your way and throwing a fit is definately not the way to go!

Sophie is playing with the foam packing that came in the box with my new laptop that she and Jason gave me for my birthday. I thought she looked like she was skating when she had the foam on her feet.

Jason & Sophie Dancing with the Stars

Jason & Sophie watched Dancing with the Stars Monday night. She absolutely loved it! She loves music and dancing, so this was definately her thing. Jason was sitting on the couch and she would go grab his hand to pull him up to dance with her. Oh, it would melt your heart. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen.

Not only can she dance, but she can sing too! Sophie was born to perform and she even has the ending to her songs down perfect. Ta Da!!!

Geaux Tigers!

Sophie, Jason and I watched the LSU/Auburn game Saturday Night. Jason taught Sophie to say Geaux Tigers and Touchdown. She had a lot of fun running around saying go! go! go! It was really funny to watch her mimic Jason when he would get a little emotional (yelling at the tv and dancing around) about what was happening in the game.

My birthday was this past Tuesday. I really don't feel like I am as old as I am. I think that running after a 2 year old keeps you young, but you definitely get worn out quicker. Sophie seems to have boundless energy these days (except for preschool days when she comes home worn out)! Anyway, Jason had to work on my birthday so we celebrated on Sunday. He and Sophie surprised me with a new laptop.....it's just what I've always wanted. Then he really surprised me by going to eat mexican food for dinner. For those of you who know, I love mexican food and Jason HATES mexican food. He was a good sport though and even said that his dinner was good. I really enjoyed it because we don't go very often and the food was really good. I have to say I had a really great birthday this year!

As everyone knows Sophie has started preschool. It has been tough on her and me. She has cried everyday when she gets dropped off. Each day a little less crying, but still crying. Well, today she didn't cry, so after a long nap we went to get "ice keen" and to the park to celebrate. I agree with Jason when he said he didn't know what was worse, her crying or her not crying anymore, because that meant she didn't need us. This is what Sophie's hair looks like when she wakes up every morning. Actually, this is a good day. She is giving me the "woman you have lost your mind for taking these pictures of me looking like this" look.

Chef Sophie is cooking hamburgers and hot dogs. She will not eat either one, but she likes to cook them. It is really hot slaving over a hot grill, but at least she looks good in her flashy shoes. Sophie believes you must ALWAYS look good and have cute shoes.

Labor Day Weekend

Grammy, Grampy and Abbey came to visit us for Labor Day weekend despite the threat of Hurricane Gustav. We had a great time during their visit. On Friday we drove down to Gulf Shores to see the sights. We had lunch at Lamberts. Sophie did not know what to think about seeing the rolls being thrown across the room. Her eyes got really big when the boy threw the rolls to our table. The girls had fun playing on the train and trucks outside the resturant. We wanted to visit the train museum in Foley but it was closed. They had a good time climbing on the trains outside the museum though. Sophie really enjoyed it and if you asked her what sound a train makes she would pretend to blow the whistle and say "choo choo." We got to spend a couple of hours playing at the beach. Sophie got in the water for the first time. She has been too scared the other times we have taken her this summer. I guess being around Abbey made her a little more brave. After playing on the beach we were hungry so we went to Lulu's for dinner. It was really good and we had a good time listening to the band. This was the first time that Sophie had seen a live band play since she has been old enough to know what is going on around her. She would clap and cheer for them after they finished each song.

Saturday was another busy day. We went to the new Bass Pro Shop in Spanish Fort to look around and each lunch. We had a good time looking at everything and then we had a great lunch at the Fish Company resturant. Sophie and Abbey had the cutest dessert. It is called the big mouth bass brownie. The brownie is shaped like a fish and it is jumping over vanilla ice cream into a pool of chocolate syrup with a gummy worm in its mouth. Both girls really enjoyed it. That evening we took the girls to play in the fountain at the Eastern Shore Centere. This was the first time that Sophie really played in the water. The other times we have taken her she didn't want to get wet. Abbey really had a great time. She somehow talked Uncle Jason into playing in the water with her. They chased one another trying to dump buckets of water on each other. I think that Abbey won, Jason was pretty soaked by the time we left.

On Sunday we were going to go the water park but it was closed due to the hurricane. Abbey was pretty upset about that, but we'll have to make sure she gets to go next time. Unfortunately, they had to cut their trip short in order to make it home while the weather was still good. We were sad to see them go because we were having a great time. Thankfully, they made it home safe and sound. Jason, Sophie and I spent the rest of the day preparing for the storm.

Sophie's 1st day of preschool

Today was Sophie's 1st day of preschool. It was an emotional day for both of us. She started her day at 7:30 this morning (which as everyone knows is VERY early for us). We are going to have to work on our time management in the mornings. Anyway, we got lunch fixed and dressed and made it to school on time. Yeah, us. It was raining so Jason and I didn't get to do the whole picture & video thing of her getting out of the car and walking up to the school. We took a couple of pictures of her standing at the front door....and then we went inside. She was doing pretty well as we put her backpack & lunch box in her cubby and then mommy said bye and walked out the door. Sophie followed crying, which made me start to cry. Her teacher tried to console me, which made me cry more. I was able to leave after about 30 minutes.

It seemed so strange for it to be just Jason and me today. It has been so long since we have had a day with just the two of us. We drove around town and went to a couple of stores and then we went to lunch. Jason surprised me with going to lunch at Felix's. We don't get to go there very often and it was nice to be able to eat our meal without having to put on an entertainment act at the same time. The four hours flew by and before we knew it our time was up and it was back to reality.

Sophie was so glad to see us. Jason said he didn't know who was happier; Sophie or me. Mrs. Donna told us she cried for about 10 minutes after we left and then she was fine. She also said that Sophie had an infectious personality... she would say yeah and start clapping and the happiness would spread throughout the room. She seemed to have a great time and was waving and telling everyone she saw bye. She even gave Mrs. Donna a hug before we left. Hopefully, she will remember the good time she had and Wednesday will not be too bad. Sophie ended her long morning by falling asleep in the car on our way home.

Rockstar

Sophie's Birthday

Today is Sophie's 2nd birthday. Our family came to visit this past weekend to celebrate her birthday, but today it was just mommy, daddy and Sophie. We wanted to do something special so we took her to get her ears pierced. She did great. She didn't cry until after the 2nd ear was pierced and by then it was over. The girl that pierced her ears said she was the best little girl she had ever done. Yeah Sophie! Everyone we passed at the mall commented on how cute and prissy she was carrying her little pink dora purse. She thought she was cute before and now she really thinks she is something. We celebrated her being a big girl by going for ice cream afterward. The man at Marble Slab brought her a birthday balloon, which she loved. It was a very exciting day for her and then she passed out for the night once we got home.

Sophie is in love with her sunglasses and she thought that Piper should wear them this morning. Piper was a really good sport about the whole thing. She would just shake them off once Sophie walked away. I'm sure that Piper will begin to endure many more "dress up" days as Sophie gets older.

We took Sophie to Logan's for lunch today. She ate her lunch like a big girl and then she got to eat 3 mini strawberry cheesecake desserts. She thought they were yummy and had a lot of fun eating them.

We had Sophie's 2nd birthday party this past Saturday. We had a great time visiting with our family. Her party was going to be at the Eastern Shore Center fountain, but it rained and we had to move it to our house at the last minute. I was looking forward to a less stressful party this year, but it turned out to be the opposite since we only had a little over an hour to get everything ready. Thank God our family was there to help. The party turned out great and everyone had a good time so it was worth it. Sophie had fun telling everyone she's two. If you ask her how old she is she will say twwoo and then clap and cheer. It is so cute. I can't belive that she is already two and will be starting preschool in a couple of weeks. The past two years have been so much fun and I'm sure we are in store for a lot more to come.

1st trip to the movies

We took Sophie to see her first movie at the movie theatre. During the summer our town has a free children's movie festival every Tuesday and Wednesday morning. We saw the Bee movie and it was really cute. Sophie's first reaction when the movie started was "wow" and "ooh wow". We took her car seat in so she had a nice comfortable seat. This was the best idea ever because she sat in one spot and was not trying to climb down every 5 minutes. Now that we know she does well in the movie theatre we can go more often!

Picking Blueberries

We went to pick blueberries today at Lyrene's Flower Farm. Sophie was a big helper. She liked playing with the blueberries (she smashed a few into blueberry juice) and carrying the bucket! We picked 2lbs of blueberries, so we have alot of blueberries to eat. I told Sophie that we would make blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Jason wants me to make a blueberry cobbler. Maybe I'll be Betty Crocker and surprise him with my blueberry recipe skills.

Father's Day Weekend

We traveled to Monroe on Father's Day. We celebrated Father's Day and Jason and Rachel's birthdays with a crawfish boil. We had a lot of fun. It has been a while since we have been to a crawfish boil. Grammy had a big surprise for Sophie. NEW SHOES!!! Sophie is obsessed with shoes, so Grammy gave her some fancy high heels that she wears everywhere! Grampy tried to turn Sophie into a country girl. She helped him pick green beans, but she wouldn't eat any of them. We'll have to keep working on that. As always our trips home are over too quick and it was time to return home before we knew it.

Time has flown by. It seems like it was just yesterday we were bringing home a new baby and now we don't have a baby anymore. She is a big girl now, or so she thinks. We are getting ready for her second birthday. We went to the beach a couple of weeks ago to take pictures for her birthday thank you notes. That was really fun, but very difficult to get good pictures. She didn't want to stop and pose for any of them. I think that Jason had to take about 60 pictures to get 20 decent ones!
